Ugh.

  • Nov. 5th, 2009 at 12:03 PM

So, I've been quarantined to my room for the next day. I've got "flu-like symptoms". Unless I run a fever, I should be out just in time for my orgo exam. Yay.

Well, at least I'm pretty sure I've got my schedule for next semester ironed out.

Tuesday:
10-11:30 Microbiology
11:30-1 History of EvoDevo

Thurs:

So, I'm alive

  • Aug. 25th, 2009 at 4:41 PM

Howdy. Summer's been boring and I want to go back to the Mawr. :D

HOWEVER, I'm in a bit of a conundrum. So, back in the spring I got lotteried out of one of the classes I wanted to take this semester. I STILL HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT A REPLACEMENT CLASS. fdsanfjdskaf. I need an English class for my med school reqs. HOWEVER. None of the classes this semester appeal to me. So I think I'm gonna wait 'til next semester and hope for a better selection there.

That still leaves the question of WHAT CLASS DO I TAKE. Alright, so far, I'm definitely in Genetics, Developmental Biology, and Organic Chemistry. I've narrowed the list down to two classes that fit my schedule: Emergence (a 300-level Comp Sci/Bio course) and Intro Anthro.

At this point, I think I'm leaning toward Anthro. It fits my schedule and I think it would be slightly easier. It's one hour more of scheduled time-commitment, (an hour long lab) but I think the work-load would be lighter. And while Emergence counts towards my major, I'm already taking two bio courses this semester. I really don't need to complete half my major in one semester, right?

EDIT: Possible Schedule 1
Possible Schedule 2

EXAAAAMS.

  • May. 11th, 2009 at 11:08 PM

I hate exam week. There's too much stress. I just want to be done and go home and sleep for a week. Graaaah.

Yay!

  • Mar. 14th, 2009 at 10:15 PM

So, I got the apprenticeship at Delaware Shakespeare Festival! I'm soooo excited!

...And now back to memorizing lines. (Act 3 is killing meeee.)

Spring Break

chain of command
I love spring break. I'm so tired, I may just sleep all week.

So I'll probably be working in an insurance office this summer. I know it's exciting. Wheee. However, I'm also applying for an apprenticeship at the Delaware Shakespeare Festival. (GAAAAAH I HOPE I GET IT.) It would be in addition to the office job and rehearsals would be evenings and weekends. And it's right across the street which would be awesome. It's theatre stuff over the summer. I really hope I get in.

I'll hopefully have a phone interview this week and I'll see how it goes from there. Gaaah.

My Life, let me show you it.

chain of command
I'm chilling in the Gym. Ergo bored. Last night was super fun! The SPT dinner party was fantastic. The food and company were both greatly appreciated. As was the drink. And the games! I love all y'all.

And then to Batten! I kind of love Batten parties. This one was especially fun because Nina and I ran into Mari, Naomi, Random, and Rachel A. Also strawberry hookah is delicious. Just saying.

Waking up this morning was less fun. No hangover (I only had, like, three drinks), but I was really tired. I stayed up late talking with Nina, Random, and Mari. 4 hour Saturday morning shift was perhaps not the wisest of ideas! Oh, well. At least I get paid. :D

So, yeah. Today should be chill. I'll probably go to the Drag Ball tonight. If you're on campus, you should too! It'll be in Rock around 10? I think? I'll check the facebook event later.

Ooooh. So, rant about my chem prof: He's a douche! Yaaaay! Basically, he gave us an exam the Friday of Hell Week (DOUCHE!). And then the class average was a 72. Which he considers good. What. The. Fuck. He's a horrible lecturer to boot. He rambles on with these metaphors that make no sense and then does example problems without teaching us the logic and concepts behind the problems. It's much easier to just learn of the book. Blaaaaargh. Oh, well.

Classes are really a lot of work this semester. I'm in Physics, Chemistry, German, and Human Evolution. I'm doing as well as I usually do, which is fine, but I'm working a lot harder than I've had to in semesters past. I'm also really dedicated to doing well to prove that I can have a lead role in a show and still succeed academically. My grades slipped a little (nothing huge) during Twelfth Night. But it's a lot easier now that I have a single. I don't have to work around my roommates' schedules as well as my own. Which is really great.

Theater Stuff

  • Feb. 2nd, 2009 at 1:40 AM
interesting
I'm gonna have a busy semester. O.o

I got cast in SPT's Two Noble Kinsmen! I'm very excited. :D I'll be playing Arcite, one of the two noble kinsmen. Mari will be Palamon, the other noble kinsman! Also, three of my hallmates were cast as well. Ellie R. is Emilia, Maia is Countryman 4/Valerius/Servant, and Danielle is Countryman 1/Brother/Herald. Go Brecon 4th!

I also got cast in Relle and Nga's production of A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant, And A Prayer. I'll be doing the monologue "The Aristocrats" which is about the fundamental differences between the male and female senses of humor and how this one joke really epitomizes that.

So lotsa stuff. Hopefully, I won't be too stressed. :D

Meanwhile, back at the Mawr

  • Jan. 28th, 2009 at 6:59 PM

So, I'm back and I've got a schedule. Yaaaay. (Finally found a fourth class!)

German - MTWThF 9:00-10:00
Physics - MWF 11:00-12:00, Lab Mon 1:00-4:00
Chemistry - MWF 12:00-1:00, Lab Wed 1:00-4:00
Human Evolution - T 1:00-4:00

Work - Fri - 2:00-5:30
- Sat - 10:00-2:00

Lavender's Blue - Sun 8:00-10:00
- Thurs 8:00-10:00

I wish I didn't have to work the weekend shifts, but that's what happens when you don't know what your schedule's gonna be. Ah well.

Obama-rama!

  • Jan. 17th, 2009 at 10:55 PM

So, today Obama took a train to DC. He made a lovely stop in Wilmington, DE at our train station - to pick up Joe the Biden! My mom and I went to go see him! It was sooo cold, but it was totally worth it.

My mom's friend Kelly got pictures and she said she'd email them soon. Yaaay!

So, break has been long and I'll be back at the Mawr tomorrow or Monday. I'm working on a song for Lavender's Blue. I've got my half done except the bass part. grrrargh, bass part.

I've also been watching way too much of the Food Network. ACE OF CAKES. GOOD EATS. DINERS, DRIVE-INS, AND DIVES. It makes me want to eat. And make ridiculously awesome cakes.

And I still need a fourth class. Preferably Division 1. I think I'm gonna shop Politics and the Mass Media, but I dunno how I feel about Poli Sci. I wanna take Anthro, but it's ludicrously full. :(

And I saw the new Supernatural episode... Meh. Underwhelming. First off, the pacing was off. It dragged a bit. And I hope we're not starting a pattern of the episodes ending with:

Boys: *leaning on car in pretty location*
Dean: :(
Sam: Anything you wanna talk about?
Dean: ...no.
Sam:...
Dean: ...unless you count the fact that I killed puppies in hell. *stares into distance*
Sam:...
*CREDITS*

And there wasn't enough Sam for my poor neglected Sam!Girl heart. The next episode looks good though. *hopes* Maybe I was just expecting too much coming back from hiatus.

The first 5 people who comment in this post get to request a simple sketch of a character (or whatever) of their choosing from me. in return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their drawing ability level.

Taken from anyagee who drew me a lovely picture of Kaylee. :)

I'm bored and procrastinating,

  • Dec. 7th, 2008 at 3:15 PM

Time for a meme!

Put your MP3 player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. )

So, I'm really just sitting around in my room, ignoring things I should be doing.

Maybe I'll watch a movie and "study". Or perhaps actually study.

Summer is almost goooone!

  • Aug. 18th, 2008 at 11:47 AM

So, I had a nice summer. It was exceedingly boring, but nice. I have my last day of work tomorrow, but they're expecting me back for Christmas. GameStop is a very very different environment than the one I'm used to (ie: Bryn Mawr). At Bryn Mawr, it's all women and at GameStop I was the ONLY woman who worked there. Really funny, because the manager forgot to take down the Dead or Alive poster in the bathroom.

Sometimes, people ask really stupid questions. And I've also noticed that people who come into the store usually go to whoever I'm working with. Because I'm a girl and they don't think I know anything about video games. Kind of annoying, but what can you do. The harried-looking mothers tend to go to me first, though.

ALSO. EVERYONE WANTS THE WII. AND WE NEVER HAVE IT. EXCEPT FOR ONCE.

So, yeah. I've been given the list of frosh in my customs group and I'm SUPER EXCITED. Elizabeth and I sent them their welcome letter. We'll be moving in on the 23rd.

And I'm STILL trying to find a campus job (hopefully at the Gym or the Multicultural Center because of their proximity to Brecon). Gaaaah.

Bored = Memes!

Step 1: Put your music player on shuffle.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 40 songs that play, no matter how
embarrassing.
Step 3: Bold the songs when someone guesses both artist and track
correctly.
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!
Step 5: If you like the game post your own!

16. Where are we? What the hell is going on?
17. Now, if you're feeling kinda low about the dues you been paying
18. Just about a year ago, I set out on the road
19. Daddy's flown across the ocean

That's all one, our play is done...

  • Apr. 27th, 2008 at 11:16 PM

So, Twelfth Night is over and I've hit my post-show depression. I just really loved this show and this cast and even though I'll have more free time now, I'll miss having rehearsal with such wonderful people. I love acting and being on stage, so whenever I'm not preparing for a show, I feel like something's missing.

I used to recite my lines to myself while I walked across campus, to help me memorize them. Now, every time I catch myself doing that I feel really sad because I'll probably never have the occasion to say these lines again. I really liked Viola and I'll miss being able to play her so much.

BLAH.

I'm soooooooo nervous. See, according to my roommate who also applied for Customs and had her interview on Thursday, we're due to hear back by tomorrow. AND I WANT CUSTOMS SO BADLY. GAAAAAAH. *implodes*

Yeah. There's that. And I have rehearsal pretty much every weeknight, so I'm tired. And I have lines to memorize. GAAAAAAH.

AND I NEED A SUMMER JOB! THAT MEANS APPLICATIONS AND INTERVIEWS AND OTHER SUCH THINGS. GAAAAAAH.

But I'm doing pretty well. My mom's coming up for lunch on Tuesday with my grandma and my aunts and I can't wait for that. Also, Comp Sci is canceled this week because Deepak is out of town. *glee*

So yeah. Life is stressful, but generally good. ^_^

  • Feb. 5th, 2008 at 8:15 PM

So, yeah... putting off work. XD Every time I attempt to do French reading I fall asleeeeep. I also have to work on my application for Customs. *crosses fingers* I really hope I get it! I think I have a good chance if only because my first choice dorm is Brecon. ^_^ The walk isn't as bad as people make it out to be and it's a gorgeous building.

I'm really just killing time until rehearsal. I'll get my work done after that. (at least, I'll keep telling myself that... ^_^)

Bad lazy Madi.

LIFE.

  • Jan. 26th, 2008 at 9:56 PM

I HAS ONE.

So, yeah. EVENTFUL FIRST WEEK. I have a schedule of class-type things. I'm taking French (Introduction a l'analyse litterare et cuturelle), Bio 102, Intro to Computing (THERE ARE ROBOTS. ROBOTS!), and Mask and Puppetry Performance and Design.

And I think they're gonna be AWESOME. YAAAY. Also, we held our first set of auditions for Lavender's Blue today. In an annoying yet hilarious twist, NO ONE SHOWED UP. Yeeeeeah. But we have another set tomorrow. And in addition to Jill and Mari, Lavender's Blue will be group helling me. I'm doomed, aren't I?

OOOH! And I got into Shakespeare Performance Troupe again this semester! I got into Twelfth Night - the play that I preferred of the two - and I got a really exciting part! I get to be Viola and HAPPY YAY JOYNESS. And there are a BUNCH of Romeo and Juliet people in our cast, like Jill! And I'm just about bouncing off the walls. ^_^

MY BOREDOM...

  • Jan. 20th, 2008 at 1:07 PM
interesting
...LET ME SHOW YOU IT. PROJECT RUNWAY. I LOVES IT AND HAVE NOW SEEN ALL OF THE AIRED SEASONS. When I'm down and want to give up, I want Tim Gunn to show up and tell me to "Rally!" and "Make it work!". I want a Tim Gunn motivational poster, goddammit. That would reek of awesome.

Well, I won't be bored for much longer. I head back to the Mawr on Monday! (I'll try and stop by the Batcave to visit my wonderful Heller, Jill!) And I'm pretty excited about my classes this semester. I'm in Bio 102, French - Litterature a l'analyse cuturelle, Intro to Computing, and Mask and Puppetry Performance and Design (YAY FOR POSSIBLE THEATER MINOR!)

I'm excited to get back to singing with Lavender's Blue, probably because I think ALL OF THEM ARE AWESOME. YAY. And I'll be trying out for SPT again this semester. Even though it confuses my mom and my brother.
(Mom: Wait, why aren't Romeo and Juliet dead yet?

Konnor: I dunno. I want more swordfights.

Dad: LOLZ. THAT MERCUTIO IS SURE FUNNY.)

I will miss my family though. A lot of people I know from high school don't get along with their parents or they don't care what their parents think. And they get all confused when I say things like "I miss my mom". So yeah. But happily BMC is 40 minutes from my house (30-35 if you speed, and we do). So we visit each other often.

I've got work again this semester, as I will have every semester, but next year I may take refuge in a library somewheres. Dining hall work can be kinda... gross. (DISH ROOM. HALF-EATEN APPLES. SO MUCH STUCK ON OATMEAL. I HAVE NIGHTMARES.)
